Educational Objectives

The graduate program in Biomedical Engineering at Tsinghua University aims to cultivate leading talents with profound professional knowledge, innovative capabilities, and a global perspective, enabling them to conduct cutting-edge scientific research and pioneering development in the field of biomedical engineering.

Educational System

1.Graduate education and talent cultivation: including academic degrees (Master of Engineering, Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering) and professional degrees (Master of Engineering, Doctor of Engineering).

2.Dual-degree programs: In collaboration with internationally renowned universities such as Johns Hopkins University, dual master degree programs are offered with a duration of 2–3 years, including one year of coursework abroad and one year of domestic research practice.

Curriculum System

1.Graduate courses: Covering 25 courses such as Systems and Computational Neuroscience, Medical Image Processing, Principles and Experiments of Electrophysiology, and Physical principles of Medical Imaging.

2.Featured courses: Including Translational Medical Engineering, Decoding Auditory Perception, and Biomedical Signals and Systems.

Textbook Development

1.Textbook writing: Faculty members have contributed to the authorship and publication of multiple textbooks in biomedical engineering, including Digital Signal Processing: Theory, Algorithms, and Implementation.

2.Reference textbooks: Including works such as Frontiers in Brain-Computer Interface Research and Neural Circuits and Brain Disorders.

Training Components

1.Master of Engineering (academic): Thesis proposal, mid-term evaluation, final thesis summary report, and thesis defense.

2.Master of Engineering (professional, medical-engineering integration): Thesis proposal, mid-term evaluation, final academic report, and thesis defense.

3.Doctor of Engineering: Thesis proposal, mid-term evaluation, final academic report, thesis defense, and qualifying examination.

Educational Experiment Platforms

1.Platform support system development: Including physiological and electrophysiological experimental platforms, biomedical sensing and instrumentation experimental platforms, and micro/nano medical experimental platforms.

2.Research platforms' role in supporting teaching: Providing intelligent medical robotics platforms, micro/nano medicine and tissue engineering platforms, and neural engineering platforms.
