Neuro-engineering and Intelligent Medicine

Tsinghua University holds a leading international position in the field of neuro-engineering and intelligent medicine, driving deep integration of brain science, biomedical engineering, cognitive science, and artificial intelligence through interdisciplinary collaboration. Our research teams are led by distinguished professors who have made groundbreaking advances in brain–computer interfaces (BCI), neural signal processing, neural network dynamics, and the neural mechanisms of human language.

Our research extends beyond the laboratory and is closely integrated with clinical diagnosis and curation. We have developed several innovative technologies, such as high-precision intracranial EEG acquisition devices and wireless minimally invasive BCI systems, which have already been applied in neurosurgical practice to provide new treatment options for patients. Our teams have also achieved remarkable results in uncovering the dynamic mechanisms of brain functional networks and the neural basis of speech and language processing, publishing extensively in top international journals.

Our research in neuro-engineering and intelligent medicine focuses on the following core areas:

1.Brain–Computer Interface (BCI) Technologies: Development of both non-invasive and minimally invasive BCI systems to enable efficient interaction between the human brain and external devices. Our research spans the full chain from fundamental theory to practical applications, including neural signal acquisition, processing, decoding, and feedback.

2.Neural Network Dynamics: Investigation of the dynamic changes in large-scale brain networks to understand how the brain processes information and to develop novel therapeutic approaches to neurological disorders.

3.Neural Mechanisms of Human Language: Exploration of how the brain encodes and processes language, contributing to the understanding of language disorders and informing improved rehabilitation strategies for affected patients.

4.Brain-Inspired Intelligence: Studying the principles of brain function to inspire the next generation of artificial intelligence, particularly in areas such as emotion recognition and social interaction.

5.Cross-Scale 3D Tissue Mapping Technologies: Development of advanced methodologies to reconstruct the three-dimensional structure of biological tissues across scales, enablinginsightinto cellular and molecular processes and promoting spatially informed pathological diagnostics.

Through this integrated research framework, our neuro-engineering and intelligent medicine program not only advances the frontiers of science but also delivers tangible innovations for healthcare. Our achievements have demonstrated great potential in clinical trials, offering new hope for patients. Looking forward, we remain committed to translating fundamental discoveries into practical applications to improve human health and quality of life.
