Program Introduction

To enhance internationalization and expand global influence, the Department of Electronic Engineering and the School of Biomedical Engineering at Tsinghua University have jointly established a dual master's degree program with the Department of Biomedical Engineering at The Johns Hopkins University (JHU) in the United States. The program duration is two to three years: the first year is spent at JHU focusing on coursework for theoretical learning, and starting from the second year, students pursue research practice and thesis work at Tsinghua University. Upon successful completion of the program and meeting the graduation requirements of the relevant departments of both universities, students will be awarded master's degrees from both Tsinghua University and The Johns Hopkins University.
Students in this dual master's program enroll in JHU's Biomedical Engineering program in the first year, with a focus on coursework. Starting from the second year, they return to Tsinghua University, select a supervisor from either the School of Biomedical Engineering or the Department of Electronic Engineering for research training, and conduct their master's thesis work in the corresponding department based on their supervisor's administrative affiliation.
The Johns Hopkins University (JHU) is America's first research university. Its success sparked the transformation of other American universities into research-oriented institutions. For 31 consecutive years, the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) has ranked JHU as the university with the highest research and development expenditure in the United States. The university is world-renowned for disciplines such as medicine, public health, space science, international relations, history, literature, and music. It ranked 10th in the 2020 US News & World Report rankings, and its Department of Biomedical Engineering has ranked first in its category for more than 30 years.
