The Graduate Student Union of the School of Biomedical Engineering (GSUS BME) is a student organization under the leadership of the Party Committee of the School of Biomedical Engineering, guided by the Party Committee's Graduate Work Group of the School, and co-managed by the Tsinghua University Graduate Student Union. Adhering to the principle of deepening organizational reform and setting an example, GSUS BME upholds the tenet of "Enhance, Collaborate, Serve, Strengthen," striving to guide young graduate students to rise to challenges, pursue excellence, and support them in achieving their growth and career aspirations.
Centered on the actual needs of graduate students in the school, GSUS BME has further promoted the regular work in academic exchange, cultural and sports activities, and rights protection, building on existing initiatives such as the Doctoral Academic Forum, December 9th Revolutionary Song Choir Competition, graduate sports events, and graduate life and rights services. The union consists of four departments: the Academic Department, Sports Department, Liaison Department, and Arts Department. Each department has clear responsibilities and collaborates closely to effectively meet the study and life needs of graduate students.
Academic Department
The Academic Department undertakes the core mission of promoting academic exchanges, fostering a sound academic atmosphere, and facilitating the development of supervisor-student relationships. Through organizing diverse activities, it builds a platform for knowledge sharing, experience exchange, and collaborative innovation, providing an academic space for teachers and students to interact and grow. The department participates in organizing the Doctoral Academic Forum, offering students of the School of Biomedical Engineering a stage to showcase their academic achievements and exchange ideas. Additionally, it hosts the "502 Teacher-Student-Friend Forum" and "Teacher's Talk" Mini-Salons, inviting school supervisors and outstanding alumni to share research outcomes, academic insights, entrepreneurial experiences, and technology transfer stories, thus building a bridge for in-service students to engage in in-depth communication with teachers and peers. Furthermore, the department organizes activities such as the "Excellent Supervisor" Selection, "Academic Life" Lecture Series, and "Academic Journey" Lecture Series, aiming to create a positive academic environment, stimulate the academic enthusiasm of teachers and students, enhance the academic atmosphere, and promote the prosperity of the school's academic culture.
Sports Department
Responding to the university's call of "No Sports, No Tsinghua," the Sports Department is committed to organizing various college-level and university-level sports events, enriching students' spare-time life, enhancing their physical and mental health, and helping them achieve the goal of "striving to work healthily for the motherland for at least fifty years." Throughout the year, it hosts a variety of sports activities, including the Medical and Health "Freshmen Cup" Badminton Points Competition. In addition, the department co-organizes events such as the University Graduate Table Tennis Club League, the University "Ma Yuhang Cup" Series of Events, and fun activities like the "Bubble Run." It also assists in the recruitment and operation of the school's sports clubs, aiming to create a favorable sports atmosphere and promote the development of mass sports.
Liaison Department
As an important coordination and support department, the Liaison Department is responsible for promoting communication and cooperation among internal departments, facilitating resource sharing and information flow. It establishes connections with other colleges and universities, off-campus graduate student unions, and various sectors of society to expand cooperation channels, providing students with rich exchange and practical opportunities. The department also assists in organizing social practice activities to enhance graduate students' practical abilities. Moreover, it takes charge of daily financial work, flexibly supporting the needs of other departments to ensure the smooth implementation of various activities.
Arts Department
The Arts Department is dedicated to adding an artistic touch to students' research-oriented life and building diverse platforms for cultural and artistic activities. Among its core projects is the December 9th Revolutionary Song Choir Competition, for which the department is primarily responsible for organizing joint teams and arranging rehearsals. Additionally, the department actively participates in orientation activities, organizes freshmen dances to help students expand their social circles, and develops characteristic cultural and artistic souvenirs with biomedical engineering features, bringing unique cultural experiences to students. By organizing various cultural and artistic activities, the department provides students with opportunities to showcase their talents, allowing art to radiate more vitality and joy in campus life.
Looking ahead, GSUS BME will continue to optimize its working mechanism, innovate activity formats, and take service and growth as the core orientation to continuously improve its work system, contributing to the all-round development of graduate students in the School of Biomedical Engineering, Tsinghua University.
