On the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival, the School of Biomedical Engineering, Tsinghua University held a special “Leadership Tea Gathering” on October 6, 2025, aiming to bring warmth and care from the college family to all students. Liu Peng, Party Secretary of the School, and Dean Hu Ye joined students who remained on campus. Over a warm lunch and festive mooncakes, they shared experiences in research life and openly discussed challenges and aspirations in personal and academic growth.

At the beginning of the gathering, Party Secretary Liu Peng extended festive greetings to all students and acknowledged their dedication and hard work in scientific research. He emphasized that the school is always a strong support system for its students, and the Party Committee will continue to ensure comprehensive services and support. He encouraged students to openly share their thoughts and concerns, and urged them to align personal development with the nation’s strategic needs in life and health sciences, making the most of their time and embracing their mission.

The event then moved into a relaxed and in-depth discussion session. Students introduced themselves and candidly shared feelings of research pressure and uncertainty about future plans. Drawing from his own academic and research experiences in the United States, Dean Hu Ye encouraged students to pursue their own paths with courage. He also provided a detailed overview of the main career pathways in biomedical engineering: deep engagement in scientific research, joining industry, or working in government agencies and related institutions, offering students multiple avenues for professional development.

Regarding practical concerns raised by students, such as server efficiency and maintenance, Dean Hu assured that the school would consider hiring dedicated server management staff and increasing funding to fully support research activities. On research methodology, Dean Hu repeatedly emphasized the importance of understanding clinical needs, advising students to “consult clinicians before starting a project” and position themselves as enablers, providing “tools” for doctors. He stressed translating research into real-world applications rather than focusing solely on publications, and vividly compared writing papers to having a conversation with others, inspiring students to pursue innovative research that truly solves practical problems.

With the full moon and students gathered together, the tea gathering not only addressed students ‘concerns in research and personal growth, but also strengthened the sense of community within the school. This warm Mid-Autumn gesture is expected to become a source of lasting motivation, inspiring students to reach new heights in their future research careers.
