Professor Hu Ye, Dean of the School of Biomedical Engineering, Tsinghua University, has recently been elected as a Member of the European Academy of Sciences (EURASC).

Congratulations!

Professor Hu’s research focuses on the development of innovative diagnostic tools for infectious and malignant diseases. His core areas include engineered multi-omics, nanomedicine, and mechanism-based biomarker discovery, integrating machine learning and materials optimization to advance detection methodologies. He is dedicated to using cutting-edge technologies to analyze the complex characteristics of diseases, construct comprehensive disease-spectrum models, reveal shared and distinct features across diseases, and support redefining staging criteria, personalized diagnosis, prognostic prediction, and therapeutic evaluation. Professor Hu has achieved international recognition for his work on pathogen-derived exosome analysis and nanotechnology-based diagnostic platforms. His team has made multiple breakthroughs in blood-based tuberculosis diagnostics, significantly advancing global TB detection technologies. In a Nature Outlook article published in January 2024, three of Professor Hu’s technologies were recognized among the seven most promising approaches worldwide for addressing tuberculosis diagnostics.

Under Professor Hu’s leadership, his team has published extensively in top-tier journals including Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Biomedical Engineering, Nature Cell Biology, Lancet Microbe, Science Translational Medicine, Science Advances, Nature Communications, PNAS, JCI, and ACS Nano. They have filed over 30 patents in the field of nanomedicine, 14 of which have been granted by U.S. or international institutions. Prior to returning to China, Professor Hu’s laboratory received sustained funding from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Gates Foundation, and the World Health Organization (WHO). Currently at Tsinghua University, his research focuses on developing novel diagnostic methods for infectious, neurological, and oncological diseases.

In September 2025, Professor Hu joined Tsinghua University full-time as Dean of the School of Biomedical Engineering. Professor Wang Hongwei, Tsinghua University Party Committee Standing Member and Vice President, stated: "Professor Hu brings a wealth of academic achievements and a broad international perspective. We believe his leadership will help Tsinghua’s School of Biomedical Engineering reach the forefront of international biomedical research, playing a significant role in the university’s medical development strategy."
